Capital assets acquisitions of €1.2bn in first quarter
Capital acquisitions in industry in the first quarter of 2006 were €1.2bn, compared with €1bn in the first quarter of 2005.
The major contributor to the total figure was acquisitions of machinery and equipment, which amounted to €964.6m in the first quarter of 2006, following a first-quarter 2005 level of €808.7m.
Land and buildings acquisitions were €134.8m, down slightly from €137.7m in the first quarter of 2005.
Total capital sales were €271.1m, compared with €64.2m in the first quarter of 2005.
The breakdown of the components of acquisitions into the different industrial sectors shows that the highest level of acquisitions of machinery and equipment was recorded in NACE 32, the communication equipment sector, with a level of €238.9m in the first quarter of 2006, compared with €351.4m for the same quarter in the previous year.
The highest level of acquisitions of land and buildings was in NACE 24, the chemical products sector, which was €50.2m in the first quarter of 2006. This was up slightly from the first-quarter 2005 level of €48.6m.
