A man has been injured in an overnight gun attack in Navan, Co Meath.

The man was shot a number of times in the Clogherboy estate in Navan just before 2am.

He was taken to hospital in the town, where his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Local Sinn Féin councillor Joe Reilly said neither the victim nor the attacker were residents of the estate and local people were very frightened and angry following the shooting.

"They want the Gardaí and the council to live up to their responsibility and provide proper policing," he said.
