17/07/2006 - 17:23:20Two buses carrying over 80 Irish citizens today crossed the border of trouble-hit Lebanon.
It is hoped the evacuees, who arrived safely in neighbouring Syria at 3pm, will back in Ireland tomorrow.
The convoy is currently travelling to Damascus, where they will be met by a Crisis Response Team.
Dispatched by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern, the team will hold the evacuees in a welcome centre before been flown on to Dubai early tomorrow morning.
They will then return to Ireland, by Thursday morning at the latest.
