Fianna Fáil is hosting a special conference in Galway today to discuss issues facing the small and medium-sized business sector.

Around 400 representatives from the sector are due to discuss their concerns with the party, as well as the measures they believe are needed to boost future growth.

The meeting is due to be addressed by Minister for Finance Brian Cowen and Minister for Enterprise Micheál Martin and is the first in a number of similar conferences planned by Fianna Fáil in the coming months.

The gatherings are part of Fianna Fáil's efforts to position itself as a protector of the Irish economy ahead of the next general election.
