33pc increase in medical card payments for doctors

Doctors are to get a 33% boost in payments for treating medical card patients.

The Health Service Executive spent €430m on doctors’ allowances last year - an increase of over €100m on 2004.

This caused controversy after one doctor was paid almost €600,000 under the scheme.

But new figures show the HSE are to increase payments by a third this year.
