Gift setback for Ryan

Balthazaar’s Gift will miss this afternoon’s Darley July Cup at Newmarket after becoming cast in his box.

There was some doubt over the participation of Kevin Ryan’s Golden Jubilee runner-up due to the fast ground, but Ryan confirmed the three-year-old knocked his knee this morning.

“It’s not because of the ground (why he is not running),” said Ryan. “He actually got cast in his box this morning and banged his knee. At this stage I don’t know how long he will be out.”
