Coleman wants more signings

13/07/2006 - 13:50:56
Fulham boss Chris Coleman has promised more signings are in the pipeline as he builds a team capable of breaking into the top 10 of the Barclays Premiership.

Former Swedish Under-21 striker Bjorn Runstrom and Leyton Orient defender Gabriel Zakuani have been added to the squad this week, taking the number of new arrivals to three.

Jimmy Bullard moved from Wigan in May and Coleman, operating with the biggest transfer kitty of his three-year reign as Fulham manager, is looking for at least two more players.

Chairman Mohamed Al Fayed has made the cash available to Coleman on the understanding he steers Fulham into the top half of the Barclays Premiership table.

And Coleman, who has placed a left-back and central defender at the top of his shopping list, is ready to spend to fulfil Al Fayed’s wishes.

“I’m happy with the way that the summer is progressing for us in terms of player acquisitions,” he said.

“This isn’t the end of the business we hope to do, so the future is looking very positive.”

Newcastle, Middlesbrough and West Ham will have been put on alert by Coleman’s comments last night that Steed Malbranque will be sold in the transfer window.

Malbranque’s contract runs out next summer and Fulham are desperate to recoup a fee for the French midfielder.

Coleman needs the cash raised from Malbranque’s sale, possibly around £5million, to sign a replacement.
