No reduction in roaming charges for 18 months
13/07/2006 - 12:35:47The European Commission has confirmed that mobile phone users will have to wait at least 18 months to see any enforced reduction in roaming charges.
The commission unveiled proposals yesterday to cap the massive charges levied by mobile phone firms when people use their handsets abroad.
The EC said such companies were currently charging up to five times the cost of providing roaming services and its measures would reduce these charges by up to 70%.
However, it has now confirmed that the measure will not come into force for at least a year-and-a-half.
