RTÉ presenter Kelly to join Lyric FM
Presenter John Kelly will be joining RTÉ’s Lyric FM this autumn in a new afternoon slot, it was confirmed tonight.
As part of a shake-up at RTÉ Radio 1 announced in May, his show Mystery Train was dropped from the schedule from September onwards.
The presenter, who also fronts RTÉ’s television arts programme, The View, said he was looking forward to the new challenge in the primetime slot on the music and arts radio station.
“I have long believed that RTÉ Lyric FM is the place to be,” said Kelly.
“For those of us who are devoted to music and who are serious about its importance in our lives, I firmly believe that the future is RTÉ Lyric FM. I couldn’t be happier.”
The presenter has also fronted the RTÉ music series, Other Voices, and has co-written several tracks on Paul Brady’s latest CD, Say What You Feel. He has written several books, including The Little Hammer and Sophisticated Boom Boom.
A number of programmes were cut from RTÉ Radio 1’s schedule alongside Kelly’s Mystery Train, including Myles Dungan’s arts show Rattlebag and The John Creedon Show.
