Jimmy 'is value for money' - agent
Jimmy Hasselbaink’s agent has assured Celtic they will be getting value for money if they sign the veteran striker.
The Bank of Scotland Premier League champions have opened talks to bring the Dutchman to Parkhead.
The Hoops are considering whether, at the age of 34, Hasselbaink is worth a reported £40,000-a-week salary after being released by new Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate on Tuesday.
But agent, Humphry Nijman, insists the forward’s demands are reasonable and has assured Celtic he will prove that by helping in their future success.
Nijman told PA Sport: “Jimmy is not making sky-high wage demands. It is all reasonable.
“He is still fit and trained all summer to be fit for the new season.
“Jimmy is eager to win things and he can do that with Celtic.
“He has a desire to still play at the top level and finish with trophies. That can happen if he makes that move.”
The former Holland international is keen on a move to Glasgow and Celtic manager Gordon Strachan believes the former Chelsea and Leeds man can replace John Hartson, who has joined West Brom.
Nijman will know in the next 24 hours whether the Hoops can sign Hasselbaink, before putting further plans into place with three Barclays Premiership clubs also interested.
He added: “Celtic have shown an interest and now we are speaking further.
“The fact is, if a club wants a player and if the player wants to go then, we start to talk.
“He thinks Celtic are very interesting, a fantastic club with a great stadium and supporters.
“We all know Celtic are one of the biggest clubs in the world and now we will be speaking to see if a move is possible, but we have not reached an agreement so far.
“Celtic have to make clear whether they are in a position to sign him.
“There are three Premier League teams in for him, so we have to find out one way or the other. Hopefully a decision will be made by tomorrow morning.”
Celtic, who are on a pre-season tour in Poland, have also played down a possible swap deal with Manchester City involving Joey Barton and Stilian Petrov.
