SIPTU to decide stance on new partnership deal
The leadership of SIPTU is due to decide today whether to recommend the new social partnership deal to its members.
The union held a conference in Dublin yesterday to debate the Towards 2016 agreement, which includes pay rises totalling 10% over the next 27 months.
The deal also includes an increase in the lowest social welfare rate and measures to prevent the erosion of job standards and the exploitation of migrant workers.
Those attending yesterday's meeting were divided in their views, with some supportive of the deal and others saying it does not include enough for workers facing a relentless rise in their cost of living.
SIPTU members are due to be balloted on the agreement in the coming weeks and their support will be vital to getting the deal ratified at a special ICTU conference in September.
