Union strike threat 'defies logic', say ISME

05/07/2006 - 13:08:16
Business organisation ISME has criticised the decision by SIPTU to threaten strike action against Aer Lingus, claiming that it would cause major disruption at one of the busiest times of the year.

“It defies logic that SIPTU, in its greedy pursuit of political and financial gain, feel compelled to hold the general public and the business community to ransom by bringing the airports to a standstill and in the process damage the international image of Ireland,” said ISME chief executive Mark Fielding.

“It is now imperative that Government stand up once and for all to the myopic and greedy union and drive forward their policy of floating the airline without further concessions to appease the unions.

“Having witnessed the antics of SIPTU, at Dublin Airport in particular, over the years, privatisation cannot come soon enough.”
