Slight gains for ISEQ
The ISEQ edged up 15.31 points to 7574.67 in early trading today, despite continuing poor performances from the financials.
Bank of Ireland was unchanged at €14, but its competitors did not fare as well. Anglo Irish Bank slid a full 25c to €11.72, with Allied Irish Bank close behind, down 19c to 18.76. Irish Life & Permanent endured a moderate loss, slipping 9c to €18.21.
The biggest gain of the morning came for CRH, on the back of a positive trading statement which predicted a one-third increase in pre-tax profits for the six months to June 30. The construction company shot up 49c to €26.74. Rival Kingspan dropped 13c to €13.51.
Ryanair, which enjoyed some positive news on passenger numbers, was the morning’s other big winner, climbing 13c to €7.30.
Other stocks which were traded briskly tended to decline. Elan and Paddy Power both slid 10c to €12.90 and €13.75 respectively.
