FG: New EU-US deal could provide info on rendition flights

Fine Gael has said that a new deal between the European Union and the US could provide Ireland with more information about rendition flights.

The existing deal between the EU and US expires in September and negotiations have begun on brokering a new agreement.

The opposition party is calling on the EU not to back down on the issue of passenger information.

The party's Foreign Affairs Spokesman Bernard Allen there is a perfect opportunity to strike a balanced deal

Deputy Allen also called on the EU to insist that any new deal with the US over transatlantic security is balanced.

The US department of Homeland Security is demanding that all airlines must transfer passenger information to them.
