Civil war film Innocent Voices is a powerful drama

A powerful drama set during one of South America’s regular civil wars, this one in El Salvador in the l980s.
The drama, of which there is much, centres on a young boy who must choose between joining a guerrilla band or the army, neither of which exactly offers decent career prospects.
Mandoki directs with a sense of the dramatic and a fine-tuned ear to the mess and destruction whirling around his young hero.
