Taoiseach fears long term delay for Northern Assembly
29/06/2006 - 09:54:22The Taoiseach says he fears the Northern Assembly will not be restored before the end of the decade if the November deadline for the restoration of devolution is not met.
Bertie Ahern was speaking ahead of today's summit meeting at Stormont, at which he will meet British Prime Minister Tony Blair in an effort to push the peace process forward.
Mr Ahern said: “If we don't see it this year I'd be very sad and upset, but the reality is we'll just have to move on. We have an opportunity, probably the last opportunity.
“We have a number of months to do this for the people of Northern Ireland and for the people of this island generally. Let's just complete the mission in the next few months."
