Sheffield United take African star on trial
Sheffield United are to take Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Esrom Nyandoro on trial after the club were recommended by former Blades star Peter Ndlovu.
Nyandoro will link up with United for pre-season training, and is confident of impressing enough to earn himself a deal.
The 26-year-old has spent the last two years with Sundowns, making his debut alongside Ndlovu in a 2-0 victory over Santos after his fellow Zimbabwean moved to South Africa from United.
“It is the wish of every player to pursue his career abroad,” said Nyandoro, who was named Premier League Soccer’s rookie of the year for 2004/05 and the club’s footballer of the year for 2005/06.
“I have received an opportunity to advance my career abroad and this kind of opportunity comes once in a while.
“I have spoken to Peter Ndlovu, who has spent the better part of his career in England and he gave me valuable tips regarding football in the United Kingdom.
“I have also watched Sheffield United in action on several occasions and I have an idea of what to expect.”
Speaking to www.sundownsfc.com, Nyandoro added: “I’m going to England with an open mind, but with a determination to give it my best shot.
“I am confident I will succeed because my style of play is suitable to the English game.”
