Quinn to sit out Galway qualifier

28/06/2006 - 14:58:56
Injury has ruled Athenry's Michael Quinn out of the Galway side for Sunday's All-Ireland hurling qualifier against Waterford.

Quinn, who only made his championship debut a fortnight ago against Laois, is suffering from a knee injury and has been ruled out of manager Conor Hayes' plans.

The Tribesmen hammered Laois by 7-18 to 2-13 and if they can account for the Deise at Walsh Park, they will strengthen their position at the top of Group A with a final fixture against Westmeath to come.

However, Waterford have amazingly won all seven of their previous championship clashes with Galway - the last coming in the 1998 All-Ireland quarter-finals.

Eugene Cloonan and Niall Healy could come back into the Galway line-up this weekend after missing the win over the O'Moore men.

Cloonan has been nursing an injured thigh but is itching to return to the fray having not made a championship appearance since July 2004. Healy should start after seeing off a hamstring problem.
