Immigrants 'being denied right to live with their families'
28/06/2006 - 08:17:29Ireland's immigration laws are denying some people their right to live with their spouses, partners and children, according to the Immigrant Council of Ireland.
In a report published today, the council says the issue of family reunification is a concern for most of the 4,000 people who contact its offices every year.
It says Ireland currently has no legislation to deal with the rights of non-EU nationals to have their family members from outside the EU join them in this country.
The Immigrant Council is demanding that the Government take urgent action to address the situation given that the Constitution recognises the family as the natural primary and fundamental unit in society.
