Moore the merrier after Brighton treble

27/06/2006 - 21:10:40
Ryan Moore maintained his winner a day record over the last couple of weeks with a near 13-1 treble at Brighton today.

Moore began proceedings two ahead of Jamie Spencer (72-70) and with the champion taking a day off, the young pretender took full advantage.

After taking the opener at the seaside track on Disco Dan (11-8) for David Simcock, he rode a double for his father, local trainer Gary Moore, on Miss McGuire (4-6) and Mostarsil (5-2).

The 22-year-old jockey feels the key to his success at the moment is that plenty of trainers are putting him up.

“I’m lucky in that I’ve got a big base of trainers to ride for,” he told At The Races.

“Fortunately they keep using me and things are going well and hopefully it will continue that way.

“Hopefully I’ll get some nice rides at nice meetings and keep trying to ride a few winners.”

With Moore in such good form and Spencer serving a four-day ban early next month, bookmakers believe Moore has every chance of wresting the title.

Totesport make him new favourite at 8-11 with Spencer evens.

“For the first time this season and in his career, Ryan Moore is favourite to win a jockeys’ title,” said totesport spokesman Damian Walker.

“His haul of winners at the smaller tracks such as Brighton has seen him edge ahead of Spencer and he is now odds-on to land his first ever title.”

Bet365 go 5-6 the pair while William Hill still have Spencer favourite at 4-6 with Moore 11-10.
