Donegal wait on Doherty scan

27/06/2006 - 16:10:54
Donegal corner forward Michael Doherty is to learn later this week if he can take any part in the upcoming Ulster SFC final against Armagh.

The Four Masters ace was stretchered off after an accidental collision with Derry's Paul Cartin late on in Donegal's 1-13 to 0-11 semi-final victory at Clones last week.

It is feared that he has suffered cruciate ligament damage to his knee.

Doherty, who tallied up a crucial 1-04 against Derry, had a scan last week on the knee at Letterkenny General Hospital and is due for another in Dublin later this week.

If he was to be ruled out of manager Brian McIver's plans for Sunday week's clash with Armagh, it would be a big blow to Donegal's chances of collecting their first Anglo Celt Cup since 1992.

The 22-year-old Doherty, who is studying Quality Management at Sligo IT, has shone as Donegal's regular free-taker this season, scoring 4-48 in 10 National League games.

Meanwhile, Kevin McMenamin could be about to rejoin McIver's panel. The Termon clubman has retured home after a spell playing in America with the Boston-based Donegal side.

The talented forward flew out to Boston at the end of April, but is set to have talks with the Donegal management about a possible return to championship action.
