Wigan set to sign Hall
Wigan are poised to complete their first signing of the summer with the capture of Crystal Palace defender Fitz Hall.
Latics manager Paul Jewell has again struggled to bring in new faces since the end of last season, failing with a number of high-profile bids as targets have moved elsewhere.
But Jewell looks certain to succeed in landing Hall, with the club splashing out £3m (€4.35m) for the 25-year-old who has spent the last two seasons at Selhurst Park after previous spells with Southampton, Oldham and Barnet.
It is understood Hall completed a medical yesterday after returning from holiday, with a few minor formalities to complete before signing a four-year contract.
Jewell, meanwhile, continues to chase West Brom trio Curtis Davies, Zoltan Gera and former Latics striker Nathan Ellington.
Although Albion chairman Jeremy Peace has insisted none of the club’s star players are for sale and that he has no intention of breaking up the team following their relegation from the Premiership, Wigan are seemingly refusing to take ’no’ for an answer.
The club have separate bids in for all three, rather than looking to land them in a multi-million pound package deal, with talks regarding one of the players apparently further advanced than the other two.
