High drama as Drogheda snatch draw
26/06/2006 - 22:23:20Drogheda United 2 Dublin City 2
Declan O’Brien saved Drogheda’s bacon with a last gasp equaliser against plucky Dublin City at United Park tonight.
O’Brien had finally broken the deadlock in a dour game by heading Drogheda into a 62nd minute lead following Simon Webb’s corner.
But Vikings levelled through Damien Brennan on 79 minutes when he shot home after Keith Doyle's free kick broke off the wall to sit up nicely for him.
Mark Rooney appeared to have won it for Dublin City on 90 minutes with a brilliant 40-yard effort.
But Vikings were stunned to drop two points three minutes later when O’Brien pounced to stab home after Gavin Whelan’s shot broke kindly in a crowded penalty area.
