Conference focuses on the arts
26/06/2006 - 08:17:06The arts will come under the spotlight later today at the opening of a two-day conference in Killarney.
Government agency the Arts Council will use its annual policy meeting to boost the need of arts in Co Kerry and around the country.
For the first time, the body is to meet with members from a local authority to discuss its importance in supporting the arts in their county.
“Developing the arts at a local level is one of our central objectives,” said Chair Olive Braiden. “It is critical to the health of society.
“We are committed to supporting others to develop the arts in a way that enhances the life of every community by providing access to, and engagement with, the arts.”
