Singapore recalls Cadbury chocolate bars

25/06/2006 - 10:12:17
Cadbury chocolate bars are being recalled in Singapore following fears of possible salmonella contamination, according to newspaper reports today.

Singapore’s Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority “is still tracking down stores which sell Cadbury chocolates imported from Britain,” The Straits Times said.

Cadbury announced earlier this week that it is recalling more than one million chocolate bars in Britain and Ireland after finding traces of salmonella contamination.

The authority advised consumers who bought certain Cadbury products to return them to the places they were purchased, the report said.

The recall in the UK was done “purely as a precautionary measure” because some of the products “may contain minute traces of salmonella,” Cadbury said.

Most Cadbury bars sold in Singapore are imported from Australia, according to the report. However, chocolates imported from Britain are available at the Cold Storage supermarket chain, which has promptly suspended sales of the products.
