Harney 'has no doubt McDowell will stand for election'
23/06/2006 - 12:28:33The Tánaiste and Progressive Democrats leader has said she has no doubt that Minister for Justice Michael McDowell will stand for the party at the next general election.
Media reports over the past two days say Mr McDowell threatened not to contest the election as part of a row over the leadership of the PDs.
The dispute was reportedly resolved at a meeting on Tuesday, with Mr McDowell agreeing to stay on under Ms Harney's leadership.
Asked about the matter in Dublin today, the PD leader said leadership issues were common within political parties and insisted that her party was unified ahead of the election.
