21/06/2006 - 17:08:52
Two woman were killed and 13 people were hurt in an explosion in a house in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis today, witnesses and hospital officials said.

There was no immediate word on what caused the blast.

Doctors said the wounds were caused by shrapnel, but it was not known where it came from.

Six children were among the wounded, they said.

One resident said an Israeli missile missed its target and hit the house. There was a pool of blood in the kitchen of the house.

The Israeli military had no comment.

The Israeli military confirmed that it carried out an airstrike against what it called a “militant cell".

A witness said a car carrying Palestinian militants passed the house as the explosion occurred. They jumped from the car and ran into a nearby field.
