Racist attitudes on the rise in North, says survey

Racist attitudes have increased alarmingly in the North in recent years, according to the latest Life and Times Survey by Queens University and the University of Ulster.

One-quarter of people questioned as part of the survey last year admitted to being racially prejudiced, compared to just over one-in-ten in 1994.

The proportion of Catholic respondents who describe themselves as prejudiced has doubled to 18% over the 11-year period, while the percentage of Protestants has almost trebled to 33%.
