Abbas to hold first meeting with Olmert
20/06/2006 - 08:33:57Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas will meet Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert on the sidelines of an economic conference in Jordan this week, Palestinian officials said today.
The meeting would be the first between the two men since Olmert took office last month.
An aide to Abbas said the meeting would take place on Thursday at a conference in the Jordanian tourist town of Petra.
He said it was not an official summit, but also would not be a “handshake in the hall”.
Israeli officials were not immediately available to confirm the meeting.
