McDowell to brief cabinet on fight against criminal gangs
20/06/2006 - 08:31:32Justice Minister Michael McDowell is reportedly due to brief the cabinet today on the Gardaí's efforts to tackle criminal gangs.
The move comes amid ongoing concern about the high level of gun crime and fatal shootings this year, particularly in the Dublin region.
Mr McDowell has already announced several garda initiatives to tackle the problem, but all appear to have failed to reduce the level of gangland activity in Dublin.
McDowell, held a meeting with Garda Commissioner Noel Conroy to discuss the situation following the death of a 22-year-old man in a shooting in the Donaghmede area of north Dublin.
