British unlikely to hold full inquiry into Finucane killing, says Taoiseach

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern said this afternoon that he is not optimistic that the British government would agree to demands that they hold a full judicial inquiry into the murder of Pat Finucane.

The solicitor was gunned down in front of his family in 1989 by loyalist gunmen.

The demands for a full inquiry follow revelations that the security forces in the North colluded in other such killings.

Ahern said however that his Government would continue to exert the maximum political pressure on the British to hold a full inquiry.
