Israel strikes Islamic militants
16/06/2006 - 21:57:48One Palestinian militant was killed and at least two others injured, one seriously, in a large explosion that destroyed a vehicle in the Gaza Strip late this evening, Palestinian medics and witnesses said.
The army said the explosion was a result of an Israeli airstrike against a vehicle in the northern Gaza Strip carrying a cell from the Islamic Jihad Palestinian militant group, wanted by Israel for firing home-made rockets from the Gaza Strip.
The army noted that in the past week alone, more than 140 such rockets were fired into Israel from Gaza.
Palestinian medics said they could not yet identify the bodies because they were severely burned.
