Malaysian court bars Cherie Blair from legal case
15/06/2006 - 08:58:54Malaysia’s top court today barred Cherie Blair from representing a local company in a high-profile legal case, saying her foreign expertise was not needed.
The Federal Court order in Putrajaya upheld a similar ruling on June 7 by the High Court, and leaves her no further avenues for appeal.
“We agree with the opinion of the High Court that such expertise is available among local advocates and solicitors,” said Chief Justice Ahmed Fairuz Abdul Hlim, who headed a five-judge panel.
He said the decision was unanimous.
Blair was seeking to represent Fawziah Holdings in a civil case that touches on transparency in government dealings with private companies.
Blair flew to Malaysia on Tuesday to attend the hearing of her appeal yesterday before leaving the country.
