England fans chanted for Wayne Rooney’s introduction after seeing their side held to a goalless draw in the opening 45 minutes by Trinidad and Tobago in a World Cup clash in Nuremberg.

And only a goalline clearance in the closing seconds of the first half by John Terry from Stern John prevented the Soca Warriors taking a shock lead.

Michael Owen and Peter Crouch had wasted England’s best opportunities but Sven-Goran Eriksson's side created few clear-cut openings.
