Woman fails in attempt for baby’s organ retention inquiry

A woman whose dead baby's organs were retained by a Dublin hospital has failed in her High Court bid to have an statutory inquiry set up.

Christine McStay's baby daughter died at Our Lady's Hospital For Sick Children in Crumlin in February 1981 two weeks after she was born.

She was informed in 1999 that her little girl's organs had been retained by the hospital.

She brought the case in an attempt to force the Government to set up a full statutory inquiry to investigate the retention of organs, but the judge dismissed her case today.
