Gudjohnsen set to be unveiled by Barcelona
Chelsea forward Eidur Gudjohnsen is close to completing a move to Barcelona after passing a medical.
The Iceland international has already agreed terms on a four-year contract with the Primera Liga champions and the clubs have also negotiated a fee, thought to be in the region of £8.2m.
The 27-year-old will be unveiled tonight.
Gudjohnsen's signing will bring an end to Barca's search for a replacement for outgoing Sweden international Henrik Larsson.
Larsson rejected the offer of a new Barca contract in order to rejoin Helsingborg in his homeland.
Barca were initially linked with Villarreal’s Diego Forlan only to baulk at the club’s valuation of the Uruguayan.
Gudjohnsen was likely to find his opportunities at Stamford Bridge limited next season following the signings of Michael Ballack and Andriy Shevchenko.
Although he has proven adaptable and capable of filling either a forward or midfield role, the capture of the world-class pair seemed set to push Gudjohnsen down the pecking order.
Gudjohnsen has been at Chelsea for six years but Mourinho admitted the club would listen to offers after he failed to figure regularly in the first team last season.
The Icelander’s arrival has gone down well with Barca captain Carles Puyol, who believes the former Bolton man will add another dimension to the European champions’ attack.
Puyol, currently on Spain duty at the World Cup, said: “He is strong, fast and scores goals. I have faced him and I know that he is a very good player.
“He can do a very good job for us and his versatility is also a bonus as he can play in the centre of the pitch as well as up front.”
