Crash victim 'was paying respects to previous victim'
An elderly woman who died after she was struck by a car in Co Donegal last night had apparently stopped at the scene to pay her respects to a friend who died in the area two days previously.
The woman has been named locally as Nelly Doherty, who was in her 70s and from Strabane in Co Tyrone.
She was travelling from her home to Rossnowlagh in Co Donegal with her husband when the couple apparently stopped to lay flowers at the scene near Ballybofey where a 34-year-old motorcyclist from Strabane died in a crash 48 hours earlier.
The motorcyclist John Barr was a friend of the Dohertys.
Mrs Doherty had got out of her own car to pay her respects when her car is believed to have been shunted by another vehicle. Her car is then thought to have collided with her.
She was airlifted from the scene to the local hospital, where she died a short time later.
Her husband was also injured and needed hospital treatment.
