Palace set to name new boss
Crystal Palace are set to name their new manager today – with his identity kept a tightly-guarded secret.
The Coca-Cola Championship side will unveil Iain Dowie’s successor at a 2pm press conference at Selhurst Park.
Hull boss Peter Taylor has been strongly linked with the position and has already held talks with Palace chairman Simon Jordan.
Media speculation in Yorkshire suggests Taylor is set to leave the KC Stadium for their Championship rivals after Palace confirmed he was one of two contenders being considered.
But the Eagles have insisted they will not make any comment or respond to speculation until the manager’s unveiling.
A club statement said: “The conference has been called by chairman Simon Jordan and will take place in the boardroom at Selhurst Park.
“There will be no further comment on the subject matter of the conference from Crystal Palace FC until 4pm on Tuesday.”
Taylor looked to be a front-runner for the Charlton job earlier this summer but pulled out of the running after an interview with the Barclays Premiership side.
Ironically, Dowie then took on the job at The Valley after leaving Palace, sparking Jordan to announce legal action against the former Eagles boss.
As well as bossing Hull, Taylor – who had a spell as a player with Palace - has been working as England Under-21 boss under Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Other names linked with the vacancy at Palace have included Graeme Souness, Mike Newell and experienced Italian Alberto Zaccheroni, who has revealed he would be keen to manage in England.
