SDLP man becomes first ever Catholic mayor of Larne

An SDLP assemblyman whose house has been attacked by loyalists on numerous occasions has become the first ever Catholic mayor of Larne.

Danny O'Connor, who was born and raised in the predominantly Protestant town, was elected last night as part of an historic power-sharing agreement with the three other main parties.

Mr O'Connor has described the move as "a further step towards normality."
