Protestors continue to block work on Limerick pipeline

13/06/2006 - 13:30:36
Protestors have succeeded in preventing work on a controversial water pipeline for a fourth day today.

Contractors hired by Limerick County Council tried to resume the work in Pallaskenry on two separate occasions, but were forced to stop by a small group of protestors.

Yesterday, four people were brought before the High Court accused of breaching an injunction ordering not to obstruct the work.

Three of them agreed to obey the injunction, while the fourth, a mother of two, is refusing to do so and is due back in court on Thursday.

The pipeline is being built as part of a switch to a new water supply, but the protestors want to continue receiving what they say is "natural spring water" from a nearby lake.
