Progress made in effort to conclude new partnership deal

13/06/2006 - 07:51:57
Significant progress has been made in efforts to conclude a new social partnership deal this week, according to a government source.

The talks have been dragging on for several months due to disagreement over a range of issues.

The pay aspect of the discussions has already been finalised, but negotiations are on-going over issues like pensions, employment standards, housing and welfare.

Government officials met with unions and employers last night to discuss the situation and a government source said afterwards that significant progress had been made.

The Government is hoping that a final agreement can emerge before the end of this week.
