Govt confirms Haughey will be given State funeral
13/06/2006 - 12:25:10The Government has confirmed that former Taoiseach Charles Haughey will be given an official State funeral.
Mr Haughey, as a former Taoiseach, is automatically entitled to be honoured by the State in such a way.
However, the state funeral is likely to attract mixed feelings given the controversy surrounding Mr Haughey's career and finances.
Reports this morning said arrangements were already being made for a state funeral, with Mr Haughey himself requesting a requiem mass at Our Lady of Consolation Church in Donnycarney.
He has also reportedly chosen to be buried at St Fintan's churchyard in Sutton.
