Four killed, 43 wounded, in Iraq fuel station blast

12/06/2006 - 12:17:08
A suicide car bomber has ploughed into a fuel station in northern Iraq, killing four civilians and wounding 43.

The explosion occurred about 1.15pm local time in Tal Afar, 260 miles north-west of Baghdad, said police Brig. Gen. Abdul-Hamid Khalaf.

It was the second suicide strike against the city in just over two months.

A suicide truck bomber attacked a crowded market in Tal Afar on May 9, killing at least 17 people and wounding 35.

In March, US President George Bush praised American efforts to stabilise Tal Afar, saying he had “confidence in our strategy” and that success in the city “gives reason for hope for a free Iraq”.
