National pay talks adjourned until Monday
Talks on a new national pay deal have been adjourned until Monday after the social partners failed to resolve the outstanding issues during negotiations at Government buildings last night.
The main sticking point in this latest round of partnership talks is pensions and employment rights protection.
It was hoped a final deal could be reached by the end of the weekend, but unions and government officials are still unable to strike a compromise.
A 10% pay increase over the next 27 months has been agreed for the majority of workers.
However, unions have claimed that the long debate over this issue has meant other items on the agenda, such as social housing and social welfare, have suffered.
The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has criticised the length of time it is taking to reach a final agreement, with negotiations now lasting more than five months.
