Dempsey hails 10 years of TG4

09/06/2006 - 13:39:47
Minister for Communications Marine & Natural Resources Noel Dempsey today visited TG4 headquarters in Galway as it neared the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the station.

To mark the occasion, TG4 are planning a special eight-day feast of television from Sunday 29th October to Sunday November 5.

"In the past 10 years TG4 has grown and flourished," he said.

"It is now acknowledged as a major success, both in terms of the television industry and the profile and status it has given the Irish language.

"I was delighted to have been able to give a significant funding increase of €4m to the station this year."

"The success of the station is further illustrated by their success in the Sound and Vision scheme being run by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland.

"As the station nears its tenth anniversary, it is right and fitting that we look back, but more importantly that we look forward to the next stage of development for TG4.

"I have examined the consultants' report on the implementation plan for the establishment of TG4 as an independent organisation and have formulated my proposals, which I hope to circulate shortly to Government."
