Rooney flies back for scan
Wayne Rooney was on his way back to England this morning for the scan that will decide his World Cup future.
The Manchester United striker was accompanied on the plane by England team doctor Leif Sward.
The scan on his right foot is due to be carried out in Manchester this afternoon.
Rooney, 20, has had a broken metatarsal but has come through increased levels of training in encouraging fashion this week and yesterday declared his injured foot “feels fine”.
Ahead of Saturday’s World Cup opener against Paraguay, manager Sven-Goran Eriksson revealed just how confident Rooney is of getting the all-clear.
“I’m confident he will take part in the World Cup and he is 300% confident he will play,” said Eriksson.
“I have been saying for one month that I’m sure he will take part in the World Cup, but I look forward to the point when we don’t discuss scans and Rooney’s foot any more.”
The United striker was seen warming up and undertaking rehabilitation work yesterday.
