HSE 'working to improve care' at illegal centre for asylum seekers

07/06/2006 - 13:38:08
The Health Service Executive (HSE) has said it is working with an illegal residential centre for young asylum seekers to improve its standard of care.

The HSE is funding the centre despite reports this morning that the centre in Dublin failed to meet the necessary standards for registration when it was inspected by the HSE a year ago.

It is illegal to operate an unregistered childcare centre.

This morning's reports say social workers have expressed concern about allegations of rape and violence within the unit, as well as the disappearance of a number of children who were resident there.

In a statement issued to the media, the HSE said it was confident a series of measures currently being enacted would see the centre satisfying registration criteria in future.
