Gardaí seek to exhume baby found dumped in 1973
The Dublin County Coroner has forwarded a request from the Gardaí to the Minister for Justice the exhumation of a baby girl who was found stabbed to death 33 years ago.
The child was found dumped in Dun Laoghaire in 1973.
A woman has come forward in recent years claiming she gave birth to the child as a result of sexual abuse while she was a teenager.
The baby is buried in the Little Angel's plot in Glasnevin and the court heard this morning that Gardaí could not progress their case any further without the exhumation.
It also emerged that the DPP was close to making a decision on whether he will bring charges in the case or not.
The inquest has been adjourned until November.
Speaking after today's proceedings, Cynthia Owen, who says she is the dead child’s mother, welcomed the request for an exhumation, saying she hoped it would lead to the truth finally emerging.
