€1bn allocated to social housing schemes this year
06/06/2006 - 07:38:39Junior Minister Noel Ahern has announced record funding for local authority housing schemes across the country this year.
Just over €1bn is being allocated to local councils for the construction and acquisition of social housing, remedial works to existing local-authority dwellings and the provision of Traveller accommodation.
Mr Ahern said the vast bulk of the money would go towards ongoing work on 7,600 social housing units, as well as the construction or acquisition of an extra 6,000 units.
