Chavez to build Venezuelan rival to Hollywood

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has opened a film studio in his native land in a bid to beat Hollywood's movie "dictatorship".

Chavez's efforts have been criticised as a "propaganda tool" by US authorities, but he insists America's film industry portrays South Americans as criminals and drug traffickers.

"It's a Hollywood dictatorship," says Chavez. "They inoculate us with messages that don't belong to our traditions."
